Researchers found that today’s teenagers start drinking an average of two years younger than women who are now in their mid-twenties did, with most admitting that they had drunk alcohol by the age of 13 or 14.
Drinking from a younger age leads teenagers to go on to consume alcohol more heavily, the study also found.
Looking at the findings from the annual survey of pupils in England, Drug use, smoking and drinking among young people in England in 2007, confirms that 13 is the point where more girls have had an alcoholic drink.
What is also obvious, looking at the survey, is that girls who do drink are drinking more than in the past.
