Ketamine ‘is the new youth drug’

The Metro:

The illegal drug ketamine is enjoying rising popularity among young people, says research.

Use of the class C drug – which is popular with clubbers and students and can be snorted like cocaine – has tripled in a decade, said the study by Lancaster and Bath universities.

Apparently it’s a top 7 drug, although the report isn’t clear where the research has been published, although a bit of googling has brought me to this page about the project:

This is an ongoing research project looking at electronic dance music communities, clubbing as a leisure practice, and related polydrug use. Using a variety of methods including large scale quantitative surveys, interviews, and participant observation, Dr Fiona Measham and Dr Karenza Moore are attempting to ‘build a picture’ of UK club culture and UK clubbers. Currently they are focusing on recreational ketamine use, and the implications for users and dealers of the recent change to the legal status of ketamine (to a Class C substance).
