I’ve had the following from Derek Ferguson the Project Manager for the CHAMP awards who asks me to spread the word about the project.
In particular he wants to encourage those who work with children and young people:
to nominate a project for the 2008 Mentor UK CHAMP Awards (Promoting Children’s Health through Alcohol Misuse Prevention).
This is an innovative biennial awards scheme aimed at recognising projects in England, Scotland and Wales that can help prevent children and young people of 14 and under from misusing alcohol – both now and in their future lives. In 2008 we are asking the public, professionals and young people themselves to inspire us by nominating projects that promote healthy attitudes and behaviours and which help children and young people avoid the dangers of alcohol misuse. You can nominate your own project or someone else’s and activities might, for example, be as diverse as young people putting together their own websites, classroom-based work, sports schemes or mentoring projects in the community. We will be giving out awards, each worth £20,000, in three categories – schools, communities and young people-led projects. The winners and runners-up will be chosen by young people aged 14 and under.
So if you know of an alcohol misuse prevention project that you think might be eligible then please visit the Mentor UK CHAMP Awards website, where you can find the stories behind some of our previous winners, guidance notes and an application form:-

The closing date for entries is 20th April 2008.
