Peter, both of these points are bit beyond the scope of this blog.

However, I'm told that those who understand statistics believe that the BCS is a better reflection of the levels of crime than police figures (because it includes crimes which have not been reported). As I've said elsewhere on this blog I think that the usefulness of the survey is in the trends it shows.

On cannabis farms; sorry, but where are these accusations of racism coming from? I've not seen anyone suggest that the police are lying low for fear of offending anyone.

Given that the BCS is part of the Home Office, and that any statistics issued by the latter are generally viewed as suspect, and probably sanitised, together with the fact that the survey is limited both in numbers and 'selected' areas, one should treat these findings with extreme caution.

It is a contradiction in terms that the demand for cannabis has gone down, whilst the acknowledged growth of UK cannabis farms is to be left unchecked for fear of accusations of racism. At the same time the age group in question seeking help for cannabis related problems continues to grow.
