General Household Survey

The National Statistics Office have published the findings from the General Household Survey, as they pertain to smoking and alcohol, these are some of the findings:

Young people drank less frequently than older people. Eight per cent of men and five per cent of women aged 16 to 24 had drunk on five or more days during the previous week compared with 28 per cent of men and 16 per cent of women aged 65 and over. However, young people were more likely to exceed the daily benchmarks.

Heavy drinking was also more common among young people: 32 per cent of men aged 16 to 24 but only seven per cent of men aged 65 and over had drunk heavily on at least one day during the previous week. Among women aged 16 to 24, 24 per cent had drunk heavily on at least one day during the previous week compared with only one per cent of women aged 65 and over. (more)

I’ve had a look at the figures and have developed the following charts that I thought might be useful.
